Astrocytes differentiating from neurosphere (Casaccia Lab)
-
This image is of neural stem cell culture called neurosphere, which has the potential to differentiate into neurons, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes. When neurosphere starts to differentiate, the differentiated cells begin to migrate out of the neural stem cell cluster. The purple dye in the image represents the nucleus of astrocytes and the green dye is its specific marker GFAP.

Stem Cell research is becoming more and more popular, as scientists in recent years have realized the potential Stem Cells hold in finding cures for incurable diseases. Under the correct conditions, Stem Cells can become any type of cell in the human body, thus if a diseases deprives the body of a certain cell, then stem cells can be used to replenish.
